Cutaneous lymphoma - (Familial) Melanoma - Keratinocyte carcinoma - Disease skin models

The skin cancer research program of the Department of Dermatology includes four mainlines of research: Cutaneous lymphoma, (familial) Melanoma, keratinocytecarcinoma, Disease skin models. These have in common a combination ofbasic, translational and clinical research, coordination by dermatologists andscientists and patient groups for which the Dept. of Dermatology serves as atertiary referral center.

The central theme within all four lines of researchis the molecular characterization of the subsequent stages of tumor progression. Methods employed include RNAseq technology and epidemiological studies to identify relevant risk factors, transgenic mouse models, cellcultures and cultured human skin equivalents. The ultimate objective is to identify and utilize new diagnostic and prognostic markers and to identify newtargets for therapeutic or preventive intervention.
