Leiden Skin Initiative: A multidisciplinary platform for next-generation dermatological drug development.
Skin diseases are among the most prevalent chronic conditions worldwide, yet dermatological drug development has long struggled with fragmentation, high costs, and poor predictability, largely because integrated, human-relevant models and trial frameworks remain out of reach for most research groups working in isolation. This is the gap the Leiden Skin Initiative (LSI) was set up to address.
Bringing together TNO, CHDR, LUMC, and LACDR, the LSI combines complementary technological platforms and expertise with a shared ambition: to meaningfully accelerate innovation in dermatology. The initiative builds on this foundation and aims to position Leiden as the leading national and European hub for dermatological drug development, one grounded in close collaboration between academic, clinical, and private-sector partners.
